Tourist Guide Savannakhet


Savannakhet can be referred to as one of the provinces located in ‘Laos’. The name ‘Savannakhet’ has been derived from the following words: ‘Savanh Nakhone’; meaning ‘city of paradise’. This is, in fact, the original name of the province.Situated on the southern side of Laos, it’s bounded by Khammouan on the northern side, Salavan on the southern side, Vietnam on the eastern side, and Thailand on the western side. At the time of ‘French-Thai War, this town had been bombed and occupied thereafter by armed forces of Thailand.

In the year 2007, the ‘Second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge’ along Mekong River between Savannakhet and Mukdahan got inaugurated. 

The districts which make up the province of Savannakhet include Atsaphone, Atsaphangthong, Champhone, Nong, Kaysone Phomvihane, Outhoomphone, Phine, Sepone, Songkhone, Thapangthong, Vilabuly, Thaphalanxay, Xaybuly, Xayphoothong, and Xonbuly. 

Temperature on an average comes out to be 77.6 degree F.
